research - Semi-Autonomous Operations iRobot 500 PackBot with Mapping Kit
The Need:
To increase situational awareness with structure mapping:
Build and analyze blueprints of buildings, bunkers and other structures before sending in personnel.
Find hidden hazards.
Deploy and move personnel with more efficiency and less risk.
See, hear and assess obstacle-ridden and cluttered indoor environments, using onboard sensors to detect and avoid collisions.
Evaluate danger zones and inaccessible areas, including urban settings, with real-time video, audio and sensor readings.
The
Project:
The iRobot® 500 PackBot® with Mapping Kit is a semi-autonomous robot with real-time mapping and safe-guarded teleoperation capabilities.
The robot will autonomously build a two-dimensional map, providing the operator with the structure and layout of the environment in real-time.
The robot will autonomously detect obstacles and change courses to avoid collisions, enabling faster, safer and more efficient teleoperation.
(Available to R&D labs in government, industry and academia, the robot is a TRL 5 product.)
The
Goals:
See detailed building maps before entering structures.
Increase the pace of reconnaissance and other operations in cluttered and tight spaces.
Get enhanced situational awareness.
