Ariel and Fetch are designed to detect and dispose of land mines. Land mine detection and removal is very dangerous; robots offer a safer solution. Ariel scrambles over uneven terrain and through the surf like a crab, locating mines and other obstacles on the land and in the water. Fetch robots operate autonomously, so just one person can control an entire team of the mine-hunters.
